The U.S. said Friday it is banning American investment in Chinese artificial intelligence company

SenseTime Group Ltd.

due to human rights concerns.

The Treasury Department said it is putting SenseTime, a leading developer of facial recognition technology with plans to list its shares in Hong Kong this month, on a blacklist of Chinese companies that support China’s military. Its inclusion on the list could complicate the plans for the initial public offering.
